HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A deadly crash on the South Beltway 8 shut down westbound main lanes of the tollway on Saturday morning, Harris County Constable Precinct 7 said.

At about 8 a.m., a van towing an arrow board failed to brake and struck the rear end of a box truck that was stopped behind a vehicle due to a lane closure, Pct. 7 said.

Pct. 7 said the impact from the crash moved the van from lane three into lanes one and two. The van's driver was later declared dead, authorities said.

The box truck driver did not sustain any injuries, Pct. 7 said.

TranStar reported that the crash affected four westbound lanes of the beltway after Bellfort Avenue.

TranStar video of the scene showed heavy law enforcement presence and emergency vehicles.
